  • Tamil Nadu Premier League

The Tamil Nadu Premier League is a T20 cricket tournament that is run by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). It is one of the top regional T20 cricket leagues in India.
The league was set up in the year 2016. At that time, the Chennai Super Kings were serving the two years ban from the Indian Premier League.
The IPL and CSK had created a market for cricket in the state of Tamil Nadu. The whole point of organizing a regional league was to cater to the needs of customers of this market.
MS Dhoni, who was the captain of the Chennai Super Kings franchise was brought in to inaugurate the first season of the league.
India Cements Limited, the owner of the Chennai Super Kings were roped in as the title sponsors for four years.
India Cements Limited is owned by N Srinivasan. MS Dhoni is the vice-president of the company. Srinivasan was also the president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association at the time of the inception of the league. Currently, his daughter is the president of the TNCA. Rupa Gurunath was elected as the president of the TNCA in 2019.
Every attempt was made to provide a look and feel to the TNPL just like IPL. TNPL also follows the premise of the Indian Premier League. Right from the auction for teams and players to the qualifying stage of the league, everything was copied from the IPL.
Four seasons of the TNPL have been played till now. The fifth season of the league was scheduled for 10 June 2020. But the league had to be postponed because of the ongoing pandemic. The TNPL 2019 was the last tournament.
Recently, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association announced that the fifth season of the league will be played between 4 June to 4 July.
