The Pakistan Super League is the T20 Cricket league from the lands of Pakistan. The idea of organizing a franchise tournament in Pakistan was born in 2013. But the league could not be organized for the first three years because of various reasons.
The league was launched officially by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in September 2015. On 4th February 2016, the first season of the league kicked off. The first season of the league had five teams. The PSL 2018 saw the introduction of a sixth team. Currently, the league has six teams.
Since the inception, the PSL has taken place each year in February and March. Last year, the league stage was played in February-March only. But the last stage of the tournament was pushed ahead due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The qualifier and the first eliminator were played on 14th November 2020. The second eliminator was played on 15th November 2020. The PSL 2020 final was played on 17th November 2020. PSL T20 2020 was the first time where all the PSL matches were played in Pakistan.
This year the league started on 20th February. It was the sixth edition of the league. The PCB could only organize 15 matches this year before there were reports of several players and staff testing positive for the coronavirus.
On 4th March 2021, it was announced that the PSL 2021 was suspended and the reaming matches will be played in June 2021. At first, it was announced that the remaining matches will be played in Karachi. But, because of rising cases of Covid-19 in Pakistan, the matches will be played in UAE. PCB had also announced that the tournament will resume from 1st June 2021.
