Chennai vs Delhi: Today’s Match Prediction, and Probable Playing 11

The second match of the Indian T20 League will be a Chennai vs Delhi battle at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Rishabh Pant will be leading Delhi for the first time. He was elected as the captain after Shreyas Iyer sustained an injury in the second ODI against England.

Under Shreyas Iyer, Delhi has played a different brand of cricket. Shreyas Iyer donned the captain hat in the 2018 season after Gautam Gambhir stepped down from the position. The following year, the team changed its name. Iyer helped the Delhi team to reach the playoffs after eight years. Last year, Delhi went on to play the finals of the tournament for the first time in the history of the Indian T20 League.

Delhi will be hoping to have the same performance under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy as well. Rishabh Pant was the captain of Delhi’s team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2017.

Chennai has been one of the most successful teams in the history of the Indian T20 League. But luck was not on its side last year. Chennai had its worst season as it finished in 7th place. It lost eight matches and won six.

More than Chennai vs Delhi, the match will be a Dhoni vs Pant battle. Pant was seen as the replacement for Dhoni long before Dhoni called off the day. After Dhoni retired, Rishabh Pant became his successor and got his fair chance to represent India.

Pant is standing on the path that Dhoni walked a few years back. Dhoni captained India in the T20 World Cup 2007 after its exit from the ODI World Cup. Dhoni went on to win the cup for India. From that point, there was no looking back. He became the costliest player in the first season of the league after Chennai bought him for USD 1.5 million.

Pant’s fans will be hoping to see him perform in the same manner as Dhoni did as the captain of the Indian team.

Pant will be captaining a side that contains previous Indian T20 League captains like Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Steven Smith. The experience of these players as a captain will surely help the new captain a lot. Also, he has Ricky Ponting and his captaincy lessons by his side.

Chennai vs Delhi Head to Head

Delhi vs Chennai head to head records suggests Chennai’s supremacy over Delhi. Both the teams have played a total of 23 matches until now. Out of these, 15 games have been won by Chennai, while Delhi has won 8.

While batting first, Chennai has won 9 out of 12 games. Delhi has won just 3. While batting second, Delhi has won 5 out of the 11 matches. Chennai has won the rest six games.

Last year, Delhi won both the Delhi vs Chennai matches. In the 2019 edition of the tournament, Chennai won all three Chennai vs Delhi games.

MS Dhoni has made the most amount of runs in the matches played between both the teams. He has made 547 runs for Chennai in 22 games against Delhi. Next on the list is Suresh Raina, who has made 498 runs in 21 matches.

Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 17 wickets in Chennai vs Delhi matches. However, all his dismissals have come against his current team. Ashwin was a part of Chennai in the initial years of the Indian T20 League and became a part of Delhi last year. He played one out of the two games between the franchises and went wicket-less in that game.

The highest score in a Delhi vs Chennai game is 222 for 5, made by Chennai in 2012. Chennai also made 211 for 4 in the year 2018. While chasing a target of 212 runs, Delhi's batsmen made 198 for 5. It is also Delhi’s highest total against Chennai.

Chennai vs Delhi: Probable Playing 11

Today Indian T20 League Match will witness the absence of few key players. Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Lungi Ngidi will not be playing the Indian T20 League match today. They flew to India after playing the first two ODIs for South Africa. All three players are serving the mandatory quarantine of a week.

Chennai Playing 11 Today

Josh Hazelwood withdrew his name from this edition of the Indian T20 League in the first week of April. Chennai tried reaching out to Billy Stanlake and Reece Topley to replace Hazelwood. But both of them refused to join the squad citing Covid-19 as the reason.

The playing 11 today Indian T20 League match for CHENNAI might look like this:

  1. Ruturaj Gaikwad
  2. Faf du Plessis
  3. Suresh Raina
  4. Ambati Rayudu
  5. MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper & captain)
  6. Sam Curran
  7. Ravindra Jadeja
  8. Dwayne Bravo
  9. Moeen Ali
  10. Shardul Thakur
  11. Deepak Chahar

The Chennai team also has openers like Robin Uthappa and Narayan Jagadeesan and can be included in playing 11 today match. But they are least likely to be picked in today Indian T20 League match playing 11. Chennai tried Gaikwad and du Plessis combination at the top last year as well, and it worked for them for few games.

Chennai also has the option of getting Moeen Ali or Sam Curran to open the innings. Chennai bought Krishnappa Gowtham for a whopping amount of 9.25 crore at the auction. Gowtham will be a good option on a pitch that supports spinners. Unfortunately, Wankhede is not a ground where Chennai would like to make his debut for them. Hence, he might not be an option for the probable playing 11 today.

Delhi Playing 11 Today

Delhi will miss the services of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. Both the speedsters were the star performers for Delhi last year. Rabada picked up 30 wickets in the 2020 edition of the Indian T20 League and was the purple cap holder. Nortje took 22 wickets in the previous edition of the Indian T20 League.

Delhi’s pace attack was dependent on these two players, and Delhi is likely to suffer because of their absence. Axar Patel is also not available for selection due to covid.

The playing 11 in today Indian T20 League match for the Delhi team might look like this:

  1. Prithvi Shaw
  2. Shikhar Dhawan
  3. Steven Smith
  4. Ajinkya Rahane/Shimron Hetmyer
  5. Marcus Stoinis
  6. Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper & captain)
  7. Chris Woakes
  8. Tom Curran/Ishant Sharma
  9. Ravichandran Ashwin
  10. Amit Mishra
  11. Umesh Yadav

Steven Smith's addition to the already solid top-order of Delhi will be an advantage for it. He can make runs quickly and provide stability to the top-order. With the absence of Shreyas Iyer, his role in today playing 11 will increase. It will not be a surprise if the whole batting unit of Delhi revolves around him.

Best Players List of Indian T20 League Today Match

It is the first match of the tournament for both teams, and players would hope to give more than 100 percent on the field. Few of these will be the key players in today's match.

1. Sam Curran

Sam Curran was an integral part of the Chennai team last year. He played all the matches for the franchise and made 186 runs in 14 games. He also took 13 wickets for them.

Sam Curran almost took his team over the line in the third ODI against India. His 95 off 83 balls allowed him to earn the title of man of the match.

Through that innings, he announced to the world about his form going into the Indian T20 League. Chennai will be hoping to get the same performance out of him. He will play a vital role for Chennai, not just in this match but right throughout the season. Curran will be a great addition to today match playing 11 for Chennai.

2. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja was a central character of the Indian team in Australia last year. Year in and year out, he has proved his worth for the Chennai franchise. He is one of the few players who have been a consistent performer for their team for a long time in the Indian T20 League.

He has won numerous matches through his performance for the team in the past. Surely he will be a star part of Chennai in today’s game.

3. Steven Smith

The release of Steve Smith from the Rajasthan Royals’ team before the Indian T20 League auction sent a sort of shockwave to all the cricket fans over the world.

Delhi bought Steven Smith for his base price, which was again a shocker. Fans were expecting a catfight going on at the auction table for him, but nothing like that happened.

Steven Smith is a player who can give a consistent performance regularly. Under Ricky Ponting at Delhi, Steven Smith might give his best performance in the Indian T20 League history.

4. Prithvi Shaw

Many people criticized Prithvi Shaw for his poor show with the bat in the Test series against Australia.

After the Australia tour, he joined his Mumbai team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy and captained them. He took out all his frustration in the tournament and made 827 runs in 8 matches with an average of 165.4.

He also made 227 runs in 152 balls against Puducherry. His innings consisted of thirty-one 4s and five 6s.

His performance helped Mumbai win the tournament. The right-hand batsman would like to continue the same form he gained from the Vijay Hazare Trophy and help Delhi win the trophy this year.

Fantasy Team Suggestion for Today’s INDIAN T20 LEAGUE Match

Chennai vs Delhi at the Wankhede will be a game that can help you win a good amount in fantasy cricket. Both the teams have some of the best players in the game. Here’s our today match fantasy team suggestion for the Chennai vs Delhi encounter:

  • Batsmen: Faf du Plessis, Prithvi Shaw, Steven Smith, Suresh Raina
  • All-Rounders: Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Marcus Stoinis, Chris Woakes
  • Wicket-Keeper: Rishabh Pant
  • Bowlers: Shardul Thakur, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Deepak Chahar

A spinner can be included in the team but should not be the captain or the vice-captain. The pitch at Wankhede will be hard to crack for spinners.

For captain/vice-captain, you can go for an all-rounder like Marcus Stoinis and Sam Curran. Chris Woakes can also be a good choice for captain or vice-captain. Also, try selecting a top-order batsman in your team as the captain or the vice-captain. Both the teams will try to go hard right from the word go, and hence the openers will be an integral part of the game.

Today INDIAN T20 LEAGUE Match Pitch Report and Weather Report

The live pitch report today match for Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium recommends it to be a batting-friendly pitch. However, the pitch also provides extra bounce to pacers. Spinners are least likely to excel here. The pitch report today match suggests that the average score in the first innings of a T20I here is 189 runs, and in the second innings, it is 169 runs. In Indian T20 League, the average score in both the first and second innings is 170 runs.

The average score suggests that the cricket pitch never gets slowed down. The main reason behind this is that the pitch here is made up of red clay. The pitch remains tough throughout the innings and at times provides enough support to fast bowlers. Today match pitch report suggests that Chennai vs Delhi will be a high-scoring match.

What is the Weather Report for Today's Match?

The weather report today indicates that the temperature will remain between 27 degrees Celsius to 33 degrees Celsius. Today weather report also brings up some information related to rain today. Scattered clouds will be there and there are chances of rain as well. Tomorrow weather report also points to rain in Chennai. The weather in Chennai will remain the same for the next week.

Today’s weather report also shows that 73% humidity will be there.

Chennai vs Delhi: Toss Prediction

Today Indian T20 League pitch report mentioned the nature of the game that might take place. One thing is sure that today T20 match will be a high-scoring encounter. The pitch will provide enough support to batsmen, and bowlers will have to toil a lot.

The pitch might remain similar throughout the match. It means that no score would be a safe score. Also, both teams have players that can chase any total on this pitch.

The best toss prediction for today’s match would be that the team winning the toss should bat first and use all the support that the pitch might provide. Batsmen will have to attack right from the word go in both the innings.

Chennai vs Delhi: Who Will Win Today Match Prediction?

Due to the absence of few important players, both teams will not be able to field their best playing 11, and hence it might affect the match prediction today. However, both the teams will try their best to outperform each other in all the departments.

Chennai had an unforgettable tournament last year. Delhi missed the gold just by one win. Both the teams were at the extreme ends of the spectrum. This year both of them will look to have a fresh start.

Delhi’s strength is its top-order, but the lack of premium fast bowlers is its weakness in today’s game. The bowlers in the squad have the opportunity to step up and rise to the occasion. Delhi will have an edge over Chennai in todays match prediction only if its bowlers have a good day at the office.

Chennai on the other hand has few players who either have not played cricket for a long time or have just played in domestic cricket.

On paper, its batting order might look really sharp, but Chennai has some potential gaps that might cost them the match. Ultimately, the team will depend on a few players, and their performance will dictate its performance. Players like Curran and Jadeja will have to play a massive role for Chennai.

Chennai probably has the best bench strength in terms of uncapped players. It will need to give these players a chance this year. It will either need a star or will need to create a star. Magic might just happen for Chennai, but chances are pretty slim for the team this year too.

But it has a trump card in the form of MS Dhoni. He might be playing his last Indian T20 League tournament this year, and he will for sure leave no stone unturned.

Today pitch report suggests the pitch being a belter. Whoever wins the toss should go bonkers. The length of the boundary from the center of the pitch is around 70 meters across the ground.

Today cricket match prediction from our side is that Delhi might knock out Chennai in today’s match.
